Is the way to quizzers’ hearts through (questions on) food?
Quizmasters Swati and Rahul (in absentia) attempted to find out through
their quiz set last Sunday. We were served 5 courses of food themed quiz for the
last SEQC shindig of the year 2025.It was a perfectly chosen theme for this
time of year.
Humour me for a moment and recall your favourite festival
memory. You will most likely remember the food associated with it, and the
warmth and laughter of the people surrounding you. The festival itself is
usually just a reason to gather around, cook and swap stories. Like most
festival meals, this quiz had the flair of a potluck; combining many flavours
and cuisines to create an elaborate fare.
The Menu:
·
The first written round, called the Aperitif,
was quite novel in that it involved identifying mathematical terms associated with
food! It had a lot of us scratching our heads trying to figure out if the images
looked like noodles, pasta or pretzels!
·
Next, they served the Appetizers that
were almost like a heavy main course. Each question had 3 parts to be answered on
various food related trivia- e.g. why is a panettone hung upside down. My one grouse
was the points system, which was slightly confusing to keep track of.
·
Round 3 was an Alphabet soup on the new year’s
festivals and traditions around the globe.
·
This was followed by round 4 titled Pièce de resistance.
This was a straightforward round of more multiparter questions-an interesting one
was about eating a man!
·
Finally, we ate the desserts. These
included connect questions, identifying the drink from the AI image recipes,
and matching the emotions associated with Ugadi Pachadi recipe.
Hence concluded the delightful meal.Wishing you all a very happy 2026. May the new year bring us a wealth of new discoveries and “aha” moments at SEQC.
See you on the other side!
