SEQC Half-Open Final – results and content

The Final of the SEQC Half-Open tournament, which was conducted in three Episodes from March to May, saw the top four teams from those Episodes in action one last time. Though it was exciting in its own right, it lacked the close finishes and cliffhangers that had made the earlier stage of the competition exciting. The Vandals, consisting of Anjali, Delson and Rajiv – the only team, incidentally, that showed up in full for all the three Episodes, ran away from the rest early in the game, and the other three teams were left fighting it out amongst themselves. Hey Prabhu Srividya, which unlike The Vandals had fielded a different combo at each stage (in Episode 2, Srijit competed on his own), gradually fought their way up the scoreboard, eventually falling short by just 17 points. As Gadgil said, if there had been one more round, they might have made it to the top.

Here are the Final scores:
1st: The Vandals (Anjali, Rajiv, Delson) – 291 points
2nd: Hey Prabhu Srividya (Gadgil, Mahesh, Srijit) – 274
3rd: Mad Men (Aditya, Sanjay, Sanket, Siddhant) – 180
4th: Wagle ki Duniya (Ajey, Nitish, Pallavi) – 164

SEQC Half-Open Episode 3 – results and content

Seven of the teams that have participated in earlier Episodes of the SEQC Half-Open landed up – some in full strength, some mildly depleted – on a hot May afternoon for Episode 3. A couple of newcomers also showed up, and were slotted into teams that were a member short. At stake were the four slots for the Final of this three-month-long tournament. Here's how the teams finished in Episode 3:

1st: Wagle ki Duniya (Ajey Patil, Nitish Wagle, Pallavi Dhakne) – 239 points
2nd: Hey Prabhu Srividya (Srijit Kumar, Vidyadhar Gadgil) – 238 (just 1 point behind!)
3rd: The Vandals (Anjali Sen Gupta, Delson Roche, Rajiv D'Silva) – 210
4th: Ameya's Harem (Ameya Mardolkar, Gouthami, Madhura Chakraborty) – 205
5th: P^2V(Leroy Veloso, Parind Phadte, Viola Rodrigues) – 199
6th: Mad Men (Aditya Mallya, Sanjay Parab, Siddhant Parab) – 177
7th: Terribly Juvenile Adults (Adish Talwadker, P.S. Anand, Sunil Sardessai) – 156

That put the final standings after three Episodes in this shape (top four teams through to the Final):

1st: The Vandals (Anjali, Delson, Rajiv) – 27 stars (546.5 points)
2nd: Wagle ki Duniya (Ajey, Nitish, Pallavi) – 25* (491)
3rd: Hey Prabhu Srividya (Mahesh, Srijit, Gadgil) – 22* (469)
4th: Mad Men (Aditya, Sanjay, Sanket, Siddhant) – 17* (399)
5th: Ameya’s Harem (Ameya, Gouthami, Madhura) – 17* (350)
6th: P^2V (Leroy, Pamela, Parind, Viola) – 15* (375)
7th: Terribly Juvenile Adults (Adish, Julian, Tarun, Anand, Sunil) – 12* (284)

Ameya's Harem came awfully close. Despite having missed Episode 1, they finished in 5th place overall, tied with Mad Men on stars, but with 49 cumulative points too few. If they had got 6 points more in Episode 3, they would have beaten The Vandals to 3rd place, got themselves an additional star and squeezed into the Final! P^2V was also in with a chance till the end of the penultimate round, but were pipped by two teams during the final Connect round.

SEQC Half-Open Episode 3 and Final

Date: Sunday May 22nd
Venue: International Centre Goa (ICG), Dona Paula
Time: 3 pm onwards
QM: Aniruddha Sen Gupta
Flavour: General
Participation: Open to all, entry free. For pre-formed teams of 3-4 members each.

SEQC Half-Open: The Last Leg

The SEQC Half-Open series reaches its culmination this Sunday, May 22. The event will commence with Episode 3, starting 3pm, after which we will have a Final featuring the top four teams at the end of the three Episodes. A couple of teams at the top have surged ahead, but it's quite close as far as most of the rest are concerned, and any of a bunch of teams could make it to the Final based on their performance vis-a-vis their close rivals in Episode 3.

New teams are welcome to participate, and I will take a lenient view on substitutions (as long as the original conditions for team formation are met).

All told, there's a good case for the original participants to make the effort to come, and for those who missed the first couple of Episodes to land up as well.

To remind you all, here's how things stand at the moment:
1st: The Vandals (Anjali Sen Gupta, Delson Roche, Rajiv D'Silva) – 19 stars (336.5 points)
2nd: Wagle ki Duniya (Ajey Patil, Nitish Wagle, Pallavi Dhakne) – 15* (252)
3rd: Hey Prabhu Srividya (Mahesh Prabhu, Srijit Kumar, Vidyadhar Gadgil) – 13* (231)
4th: Mad Men (Aditya Mallya, Sanjay Parab, Sanket Nayak) – 12* (222)
5th: Ameya's Harem (Ameya Mardolkar, Gouthami, Madhura Chakraborty) – 10* (145)
6th: P^2V (Pamela D'Mello, Parind Phadte, Viola Rodrigues) – 9* (176)
7th: Terribly Juvenile Adults (Adish Talwadker, Julian D'Costa, Tarun Mascarenhas) – 8* (128)
8th: Awesome (Anant Sridhar Prabhu, Lynn Barreto Miranda, Vishwanath Rajan) – 7* (150)
9th: SAP (Anuradha Goyal, Paul Gatward, Suraj Kamat) – 7* (143)
10th: Wookies & Ewoks (Aditi Mascarenhas, Amey Parsekar, Ashwin Mascarenhas, Sunil Sardessai) – 3* (85)
11th: NIT-Pickers (Dhara Rane, Sahil Ramchandani, Tejan Karmali) – 3* (51)
