News has been appearing in the press about the SEQC Movie Quiz. This is based on old information, which continues to appear despite our best efforts. This post is simply to announce that the Movie Quiz is not going to be held this Sunday (November 24). We will announce it at a later date, once we have it firmed up.

The BiG Q for 2013 is Rajiv D'Silva, making it a hat-trick of crowns for him. The Best Open Quizzers are Kunal Naik (Panjim) and Julian D'Costa (Margao) – both participants from the School category! The Best School Quizzers are R. Samyak (Panjim) and Harsh Hegde (Margao).

NWWA Inter-school Quiz

The Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) is back with its Inter-school Quiz. The quiz is to be held at the INS Mandovi base in Verem, and like last year, transport will be arranged from the Kadamba Terminus in Panjim, and from under the Betim bridge for students coming in from the north.

Participation: Open to all, in teams of two. Company/college affiliations irrelevant. No prior registration required.

ITZ Final

In The Zone has now reached its focal point. The Final will be held this Sunday, with four teams battling it out for the all-Goa Regional Championship. The quiz will be conducted by an external QM, K-Circle Hyderabad's J. Krishnamurthi Rao aka JK. There might even be more at stake than just pride. You never know! The best and baddest of SEQC will be slogging it out. Make sure you're there for the fireworks.

ITZ Play-off Match – report and results

In one of the most acrimonious quizzes that I have ever seen at SEQC (so much so you could easily have imagined it to be a battle of Feku vs Pappu supporters), the Panjim Psmartypants fought off the challenge of their local and outstation competitors and squeezed through to the Final of the ITZ competition. In the Final, to be held on Sunday November 17, they will be up against Aldona Ambotik, the Mad-gaonkars and the Panjim Pastafarians.

While the Psmartypants held the lead throughout the match, some sensational developments in the final buzzer round brought both the other teams into contention with just one question to go. At this stage, chaos ensued as buzzers were pressed, rules were modified on the fly and curses were flung across the room.

Three finalists have already been identified from the ITZ group stage matches. The second-placed teams from each of the three groups will now go into a Play-off match to vie for the last remaining spot in the Final. Interestingly, several of our best quizzers are up against each other in this match. Will be worth watching.

BiG Q 2013

The BiG Q, SEQC's annual solo written quiz, is into its 5th year. Aimed at identifying the 'Best-in-Goa Quizzer', the competition will be held in two locations, one each in North Goa and South Goa. It is a solo written quiz, with 120 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Please bring your own pens and backing boards.

Date: November 9, 2013
Time: 4.30pm (reporting time); quiz starts at 5pm.
Answers are revealed immediately afterwards, with corrections done simultaneously, so provisional scores are decided on the spot. You'll be done by about 8pm.
