Day of Quizzing

Looks like we're fixed on Sunday April 28 as SEQC's Day of Quizzing, and the International Centre Goa (ICG) as the venue.

The idea is to spend the entire day there, quizzing from morning till evening. Let's say we start off at 10am, and wind up by about 8pm.

During this period, we will do a series of short quizzes (say, 12 questions each) from a number of QMs. We'll give each QM a 30-minute slot, and they have to plan their quizzes to run in that period.

We could start the day with a Science & Technology Quiz (if Nitish is willing to take that on) that runs from 10am to 12noon, and then have another three half-hour quizzes till 1.30pm.

We break from 1.30 to 2.30 for lunch. It will be simplest if this is done as a buffet at the ICG restaurant, so for that we would need to get an estimation of numbers.

Post-lunch, another four QMs could be slotted in from 2.30pm till 4.30pm, then a break for tea, followed by the highlight quiz of the day, a competitive Football Quiz conducted by Harsh Hegde (he has even rousted out some cash prizes for this one), which could run from 5pm to 8pm, inclusive of prelims.

The team selection for this would be done on a pattern specified by Harsh. For the rest of the day, we could have a more or less fixed team composition, with minor variations as people come and go.

This is purely a proposal at this stage, and comments and suggestions are solicited.

Also required from everyone interested are
(a) offers to fill a 30-minute slot as QM -- as per the current plan, there are seven slots available, and we will fill them on a first-come, first-served basis.
(b) lunch registrations -- that is, mail in saying you're on for the buffet lunch. This is so that we can give ICG numbers.

Please mail seqcgoa@gmail.com on these two points. Plans will be finalised based on the responses received. For the lunch booking, please mail back by April 21.

To clarify: people participating do not need to commit to the entire day. If you can be there throughout, of course, great. But if you have other pressing engagements (that is, you have clothes to iron), you could come for some of the quizzes as is convenient. However, if you plan to be there for the buffet lunch, or if you want to QM one of the half-an-hour slots, we will need to know that in advance.

National-level Inter-school Competition

Quizcraft, a Delhi-based quizzing company which runs a variety of quizzes all over India, is conducting an inter-school quiz series in 32 cities for the Income Tax Department. The Quiz is open to students of classes 9 to 12 (excluding the batch that has recently appeared for the 12^th std Board exams).

The Quiz will be held in Goa at the Institute Menezes Braganza, near Azad Maidan/Police Headquarters, Panjim, on Monday April 15, 2013, starting 9.30am. Students interested in participating can land up at the venue carrying some form of school ID (or in school uniform, to be safe).

It is a great opportunity for students. 2-member teams are eligible to participate, and the Goa winners will get a chance to participate in a TV Quiz Show that will be produced by NDTV shortly after. The City winners will receive Rs 10,000; plus a chance to compete for the top prizes which amount to Rs 10 lakh in cash.

The Quiz is not based on Income tax. It is based on general knowledge, with a few questions on the economy thrown in, and a select few on basic facts about income tax.
